Overnight Lane Closures on I-295 in Yarmouth Next Week

YARMOUTH - Next week, ongoing work on the Bayview Street Bridge in Yarmouth will require overnight lane closures on I-295. Single lane closures will occur on both the northbound and southbound sides of the interstate around mile marker 17. The closures will happen between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the nights of Tuesday, July 6th; Wednesday, July 7th; and Thursday, July 8th.

Route 196 Paving Work in Topsham

TOPSHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing paving work on part of Route 196 in Topsham. The work area begins just south of the Brunswick town line and extends north for almost two miles to Route 201 in Topsham. This project includes paving work on the Merrymeeting Bay Bridge. Work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 6th and be completed on Friday, July 23rd. Drivers should expect overnight lane closures between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The contractor on this project is All States Asphalt of Richmond. The contract amount is $664,459.

Third of Eight New Interstate Bridges Opening in Hampden

HAMPDEN - On July 14th, the Maine Department of Transportation will be shifting northbound I-95 traffic onto the third of eight new interstate bridges in Hampden. In case of inclement weather, the backup date for this traffic shift is July 15th. This newest bridge, the Center Bridge, crosses the Souadabscook Stream. Heading north, it is the third of the four bridges MaineDOT is replacing on the northbound side of the interstate as part of the Hampden Bridge Bundle Project.

Route 194 Culvert Replacement in Whitefield

WHITEFIELD - The Maine Department of Transportation will be installing a large culvert on Route 194 in Whitefield. The project area is approximately three quarters of a mile south of Jewett Lane. This is near the Sheepscot River. Crews will be replacing two 48-inch pipes with one ten-foot pipe. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 12th and be finished by the end of August. This project will involve a full road closure from July 15th to July 29th. Otherwise, drivers will encounter a single-lane, alternating traffic pattern.

Bridge Replacement on Route 133 in Farmington

FARMINGTON - The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing the Hamlin Bridge, which carries Route 133 over Wilson Stream in Farmington. This bridge is just south of Routes 2 and 4. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 12th and be done by the end of November. While the bridge is closed, a signed detour route will direct drivers to use Routes 2 and 4 to get to Route 156 and then back to Route 133. The contractor on this project is T. Buck Construction of Turner. The contract amount is approximately $1,750,000.

Traffic Sensor Work on Route 6 in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD - The Maine Department of Transportation will be installing vehicle count sensors on Route 6, approximately one mile northeast of Townline Road. Work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 13th. The westbound lane will be closed to traffic at 8:30 a.m. for approximately four hours. Work will switch to the eastbound lane in the afternoon, closing that lane to traffic for approximately four hours. All work should be finished by the end of the day. In the event of rain, we will push the schedule to Wednesday, July 14th.

MaineDOT Urging Caution near Edgecomb Intersection Project

EDGECOMB - The Maine Department of Transportation is reminding members of the public to use caution when passing through our work zone at the intersection of Route 1, Route 27 (Boothbay Road), and the Eddy Road in Edgecomb. This intersection improvement project involves lane closures, detours, and new traffic patterns. On-site crews have experienced some close calls. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of MaineDOT staff, our contracting partners, and the members of the traveling public.

Work on Route 161 in Allagash and Saint Francis

AROOSTOOK COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation is doing paving work, replacing culverts, and stabilizing embankments on two parts of Route 161 along the Saint John River in Aroostook County. One project area is in Allagash, directly across from Carney Road. The other project area is in Saint Francis, near the intersection of Route 161 and Pelletier Mill Road. Drivers should reduce their speeds and expect a single-lane, alternating traffic pattern. This work is scheduled to be finished by the end of November. The contractor is Soderberg Construction Co. of Caribou.

Traffic Sensor Work on Route 1 in Houlton

HOULTON - The Maine Department of Transportation will be installing count sensors on Route 1 (North Street) in Houlton. These sensors allow MaineDOT to accurately classify and count the number of vehicles using this highway throughout the year. The project area is near the intersection of Route 1 and Currier Road. Work is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21st. Northbound traffic will be impacted during the first half of the day. Southbound traffic will be impacted in the afternoon. All work should be done by the end of the day on Wednesday.

First Southbound Hampden Bridge Bundle Traffic Shift

HAMPDEN - As part of the ongoing work on the Hampden Bridge Bundle Project, the Maine Department of Transportation will be shifting southbound I-95 traffic to the first of four temporary diversion roads on July 20th. This traffic shift will happen at the East Bridge over the Souadabscook Stream. Interstate speeds limits will be reduced to 55 MPH through the diversion for the duration of its use. More southbound traffic shifts will continue as this project progresses through the rest of this year and into 2022.
