Work on Traffic Count Sensors on Route 1 in Wiscasset

WISCASSET - The Maine Department of Transportation will be working on traffic count sensors on Route 1 (Bath Road) in Wiscasset tomorrow (Wednesday, May 13th). These sensors allow MaineDOT to accurately count the number of vehicles that use this highway throughout the year. Our work area will be on Route 1 southwest of Ward Brook. We plan to begin at 9:00 a.m., and we expect it will take our crews about five hours to complete work on both the northbound and southbound sides. This work will involve lane closures. Like all outdoor work, this work is weather-dependent.

Road Work on Route 1 in Nobleboro

NOBLEBORO - The Maine Department of Transportation will be installing traffic sensors on Route 1 in Nobleboro. These sensors allow MaineDOT to accurately count the number of vehicles using the highway throughout the year. This work will require lane closures on Route 1 northeast of Sidelinger Road. We expect to begin at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27th. The project should take approximately ten hours to complete. This work is weather-dependent. In the event of rain, we will do this project on Thursday, May 28th.

Route 35 Paving in Kennebunk

KENNEBUNK - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing paving work on Fletcher Street (Route 35) in Kennebunk. This work includes the roundabout and parts of all four approaches. The project area begins at the intersection of Fletcher Street and Route 1 and extends approximately a half-mile through the roundabout. The work is scheduled to begin on May 26th and end on June 12th. If lane closures become necessary during this work, we will put an alternating, one-way traffic pattern in place. There will be no lane closures between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Guardrail Work on I-295 in Portland on Thursday

PORTLAND - The Maine Department of Transportation will be repairing guardrails along I-295 in Portland on Thursday, May 28th. The work will be happening between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. We will start on the northbound side, closing the left-hand lane between Exits 3 and 4. We will then move to the southbound side, closing the left-hand lane on the Exit 8 (Washington Avenue) ramp. Please drive carefully while passing our crews.

Bridge Work in Palmyra

PALMYRA - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing work on the Thomas Jay Merry Memorial Bridge in Palmyra. The bridge carries Route 2 over the Sebasticook River. Work will begin on June 1st and is scheduled to be finished by June 26th. We will be repairing the bridge's wearing surface and joints as well as doing paving work. Flaggers will control a one-way, alternating traffic pattern. The contractor on this job is Scott Construction Corporation of Portland.

Route 1 Paving Work in Waldo County

WALDO COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation is paving and making other safety improvements along Route 1 in Northport, Belfast, and Searsport. The work area begins at the Northport/Belfast town line and continues more than 8.5 miles through Belfast to the Searsport town line. This project includes paving work on the Veterans Memorial Bridge, which carries Route 1 over the Passagassawakeag River. We will be performing night work (between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.) until July 18th. Flaggers will be controlling alternating, one-way traffic.

Route 9 Work in West Gardiner and Gardiner

KENNEBEC COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing pavement work and making safety improvements on the eastbound side of Route 9 in West Gardiner and Gardiner. The project area begins just east of Service Plaza Drive in West Gardiner and extends east for a little more than three miles. Traffic will be reduced to one lane between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. We expect this work to be finished by the end of August. The contractor on this work is Pike Industries.

Saint John River Embankment Stabilization Work

AROOSTOOK COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation is working to stabilize and protect two areas of heavily eroded embankment along the Saint John River near Route 161 in Allagash and Saint Francis. This project will restore the structural integrity of the bank. Without this work, significant erosion on the already compromised slope will continue, which would eventually compromise the road.Work in Allagash will happen in 2020; the work area will begin just west of Carney Road and extend east for about one-fifth of a mile. We expect the Allagash work to finish by November 1st, 2020.

Route 23 Work Between Dexter and Sangerville

PENOBSCOT AND PISCATAQUIS COUNTIES - The Maine Department of Transportation is doing paving work and making safety improvements along Route 23 between Dexter and Sangerville. The work area starts approximately 1.25 miles north of Lake Wassookeag in Dexter and extends for approximately 4.75 miles, ending about one mile south of the Grant Road in Sangerville. Drivers should expect areas of alternating, one-lane traffic. Those areas will not exceed 4,000 feet, but there may be multiple closures happening at the same time. The contractor on this project is Northeast Paving of Hermon.
