Final Phase of Downtown Wiscasset Work Beginning

WISCASSET - The Maine Department of Transportation is beginning the final phase of construction in downtown Wiscasset. This phase will focus on the south end of Water Street and the development of the new parking lot. Pike Industries will begin mobilizing equipment and materials during the week of April 13th. The contractor will also be putting up signs and message boards. Pike will begin making drainage and roadway improvements starting the week of April 20th. Work will take place between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The project completion date is July 11th.

Hampden Bridge Replacement Starting Early

HAMPDEN - The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing the Grist Mill Bridge in Hampden. This bridge carries Routes 1A and 9 over Souadabscook Stream. The bridge is approximately one-fifth of a mile northeast of Elm Street. We are demolishing the old structure, which consists of three bridges built on top of one another. The most recent bridge dates to approximately 1950. We closed the bridge to traffic today and are encouraging drivers to avoid the area using Route 202 and I-395. Local traffic on Route 1A will encounter a short detour.

Route 1 Bridge Work in Pembroke

PEMBROKE - The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing the bridge deck of the Pennamaquan Bridge in Pembroke. The bridge carries Route 1 over the Pennamaquan River. Beginning the week of April 20th, drivers should expect an alternating one-way traffic pattern with temporary traffic lights. CPM Constructors of Freeport is the contractor on this project. Our estimated completion date for this project is November 13th.

I-295 Bridge Work and Daytime Lane Closures

PORTLAND - The Maine Department of Transportation will be repairing bridge joints on the southbound side of I-295 in Portland. The work will begin on Monday, April 20th and will involve extended lane and ramp closures on the interstate. We plan to finish this work by Thursday, May 21st. The project area begins at Tukey's Bridge and extends south to Fore River. This work will be done by crews from MaineDOT's Maintenance and Operations Bureau and CPM Constructors in Freeport.

Traffic Signal Work in Benton

BENTON - The Maine Department of Transportation is upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection of Bridge Street, River Road, Benton Avenue, and Neck Road in Benton. The new signal will be more visible to motorists and include new technology. We expect there to be minimal traffic impacts during this work. The contractor on the project is Hedstrom Electric of Camden. The work should be finished by the end of May.

Signal Work Between Boothbay Harbor and Ellsworth

HANCOCK. KNOX, LINCOLN, AND WALDO COUNTIES - The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing 355 traffic signal heads at 42 intersections between Boothbay Harbor and Ellsworth. The upgraded signals will provide higher visibility to improve driver safety. The affected intersections are in Boothbay Harbor, Bucksport, Damariscotta, Ellsworth, Prospect, Rockland, Rockport, Thomaston, Waldoboro, and Warren. We expect there will be minimal impacts to traffic while this work is being done. The contractor on this project is Dagle Electrical Construction Corporation of Plaistow, New Hampshire.

Bridge Replacement Work in Athens

ATHENS - The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing the Gilman Bridge in Athens. This bridge carries Route 150 (Harmony Road) over the Wesserunsett Stream. The work area on Route 150 begins at Stickney Road and extends to Gilman Road. During construction, drivers will encounter a bypass road and temporary bridge. Alternating one-way traffic will be controlled by a signal at Gilman Road. The contractor on this project is Wyman & Simpson, Inc. out of Richmond. Our estimated completion date for this bridge replacement work is July 30th, 2021.

Route 139 Paving Work in Fairfield and Norridgewock

SOMERSET COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing the paving surface of nearly six miles of Route 139 in Fairfield and Norridgewock. The work area begins two miles north of Route 104 in Fairfield and extends north to Route 2. The work is scheduled to begin on May 5th and be finished by July 5th. Drivers should expect a single-lane alternating traffic pattern throughout the project work zone. The contractor on this project is All States Asphalt of Richmond.

Route 1 Paving Work Between Caribou and Presque Isle

AROOSTOOK COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation is continuing paving work along a ten-mile stretch of Route 1 between Caribou and Presque Isle. This a multi-staged project that began on June 24th, 2019. We have about 2.5 miles of pavement removal left to do on the northern end of the project area (towards Caribou). We will be paving the entire surface of the project this year. For the most part, we expect to be able to keep all lanes of traffic open during this work, but traffic will be reduced to an alternating, one-lane pattern on some narrow bridges.

Route 1 Bridge Work in Freeport

FREEPORT - The Maine Department of Transportation will be performing geotechnical borings at the Railroad Crossing Bridge in Freeport on Wednesday, April 29th and Thursday, April 30th. The Railroad Crossing Bridge carries Route 1 over Maine Central Railroad. Our work area will be just south of Summer Street and the Freeport Fire Station and just north of L.L. Bean's factory. This work will require us to close the northbound side of Route 1 between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day. Drivers should expect an alternating, one-way traffic pattern controlled by flaggers or police officers.
