Route 1 Paving Work in Brunswick and Bath

CUMBERLAND AND SAGADAHOC COUNTIES - Next week, the Maine Department Transportation will be doing paving work on Route 1 in Brunswick and Bath. This is part of an ongoing project that begins at the Cook's Corner interchange and extends east more than five miles to the Bath Viaduct. This project also involves the Sagadahoc Bridge, which carries Route 1 over the Kennebec River between Bath and Woolwich. Next weeks work will involve overnight ramp closures (from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.). These closures help with safety and allow the work to be done more quickly. Detour routes will be marked.

Route 11 Paving Work in Limerick

LIMERICK - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing paving work and making drainage improvements on Route 11 (Washington Street) in Limerick. The project area begins at the intersection of Route and Route 5 and extends approximately one mile to the intersection of Route 11 and Prospect Street. Work is expected to begin on July 6th and end on August 14th. Drivers should expect an alternating, single-lane traffic pattern if lane closures are necessary. The contractor on this project is Glidden Excavating & Paving, Inc. out of Gorham, and the contract amount is $221,000.

Grand Isle Bridge Work

GRAND ISLE - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing a culvert under the Soucy Bridge in Grand Isle. This bridge carries Route 1 over Thibodeau Brook in Grand Isle a little more than one mile south of the Madawaska town line. We will be replacing an old culvert with a new, precast concrete box culvert. Work is scheduled to begin on July 7th and end by August 13th. Drivers should expect a single lane traffic pattern, controlled by signals. The contractor on this project is Gordon Contracting out of Sangerville. The contract amount is $1,310,802.

Danforth Bridge Work

DANFORTH - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing culverts under the Crooked Brook Bridge in Danforth. This bridge carries Route 1 over Crooked Brook. This bridge is located just north of the Brookton Township/Danforth line. Crews will be replacing culverts with a precast concrete box in order to bring the water crossing up to current standards. Work is scheduled to begin on July 6tha and end on August 19th. Crews will close one lane of traffic and use traffic lights to control a single-lane traffic pattern. The contractor on this project is LIMC out of Kennebunk.

Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory Opening Tomorrow

PROSPECT - The Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory, the tallest public bridge observatory in the world, will open for the season tomorrow. The observatory will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. The final elevator ride to the top departs at 5:30 p.m.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visitors will be required to wear masks. No more than two household groups (totaling no more than eight people) will be permitted on the observatory level at a time in order to facilitate social distancing.

Paving Work in Gardiner

GARDINER - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing paving work and making safety improvements along part of Winter Street in Gardiner. The project area begins at the intersection of Winter and Summer Streets and extends south across the bridge to the intersection of Winter Street and Route 9. Traffic may be reduced to one lane during this work. This project is scheduled to begin on July 10th and be finished by September 4th. The contractor is Pike Industries out of Fairfield. The contract amount is $19,700.

Route 111 Paving Work

YORK COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation is doing paving work along Route 111 in York County. The project area starts at the intersection of Route 4 in Alfred and extends east for approximately ten miles, through Lyman and Arundel, ending near Biddeford Crossing. In addition to paving work, this project involves safety and drainage improvements. Drivers may encounter a one-way, alternating traffic pattern. The contractor on this project is Shaw Brothers Construction in Gorham. The contract amount is $4,164,459. The anticipated completion date is September 15th.

Culvert Replacement Work in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing a culvert on Harpswell Neck Road (Route 123) in Brunswick. The project area is about a half-mile south of Dyer Corner (Middle Bay Road and Merriconeag Road). Work is scheduled to begin on July 14th and be finished on July 15th. A detour will be in place on Route 24. Detoured traffic will use Mountain Road in Harpswell.

Route 202 Culvert Replacement in York County

YORK COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be working to replace a culvert and make road improvements on Route 202 at the Alfred/Sanford line. The current culvert is structurally deficient, and the road is deteriorating due to the culvert failing. This project will begin on July 15th and is scheduled to be finished by August 29th. We will be installing the new culvert in two phases in order to maintain two lanes of traffic. The contractor on this project is R.J. Grondin & Sons of Gorham. The contract amount is $392,000.

Traffic Sensor Work on Route 1A in Frankfort

FRANKFORT - The Maine Department of Transportation will be working on traffic count sensors in Frankfort throughout the day tomorrow. The sensors are on both sides of Route 1A north of the intersection with County Road. These sensors allow MaineDOT to accurately count the number of vehicles that use this road throughout the year. Work will begin at 9:00 a.m. We will start on the northbound side, which will involve closing the northbound lane. Work will then progress to the southbound side, which will involve closing the southbound lane.
