Traffic Signal Testing in Wiscasset

WISCASSET - The Maine Department of Transportation will be testing new traffic signals at two intersections in downtown Wiscasset on Wednesday, October 30th. The testing will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until noon. The intersections in question are where Water Street intersects with Route 1 and where Water Street intersects with Middle Street. People passing through these intersections should proceed with caution. Message boards will alert motorists about this test, and law enforcement officials will be on site during the testing period.

After the testing period is complete, the signals will flash yellow for Route 1 traffic until the date they go live. We will notify the public again before that happens. These signals will feature smart technology that allows them to adapt with the flow of traffic and communicate with MaineDOT's Transportation Management Center in Augusta. This signal work represents one of the final phases of the downtown Wiscasset work. The majority of the project will be finished this year with the remaining work scheduled for completion next spring.
