Crews placed and poured concrete at key locations—including abutment 2 and bearing pedestals—and performed specialty work such as drilling and adding epoxy and steel for cover plate modifications. At the Sebasticook River bridge, an equipment breakdown paused overhang and shielding removal, and traffic controls were temporarily adjusted until a replacement crane became available.

Work continued to move forward on the Pittsfield I‑95 bridge projects through October, focusing on bridge deck replacements, roadway upgrades, and site restoration. Crews advanced the first phase of improvements on the I‑95 northbound and southbound bridges over Webb Road by removing existing concrete from abutments, approach slabs, and wingwalls, drilling for new diaphragms, and preparing and repainting steel after lead paint removal.
At Somerset Avenue under the highway, workers placed curbing, reset a catch basin, paved and striped the roadway, and finished the area with hydroseeding. On the I‑95 system-wide work, contractors placed loam and mulch over the crossovers to stabilize the ground, installed striping on Madawaska Avenue, set the trough for a new finger joint on the I‑95 southbound bridge over Route 152, and attempted to remove overhangs and shielding on the southbound bridge over the Sebasticook River, pausing that activity due to equipment issues.

On the I‑95 bridges over Webb Road, crews began the first phase of improvements. They removed the old bridge railings and sections of the bridge surface. The deck of the southbound bridge was fully removed, and work started on the northbound deck. Barriers and crash cushions were set up for safety, and temporary lane markings were added to guide traffic during construction.
August 2025
Bridge work advanced through August, focusing on replacing bridge decks and improving the road surface. On the I‑95 bridges over Webb Road, crews installed posts for road signs, added protective shielding, and prepared the bridge edges for the next phase. At Somerset Avenue, workers finished a section of underground utility lines and replaced three deteriorated poles. Road and utility areas were excavated, filled with gravel, and leveled.
Crews also installed safety shields and supports for upcoming work on the Webb Road bridges. On Somerset Avenue, temporary lights were added, and the guardrail, curbs, and part of the pavement were removed to make room for the new utilities. Work on the Route 152 bridge continued as crews removed forms and protective coverings under the bridge deck.

Work progressed on several I‑95 bridge sites. The southbound Route 152 bridge completed its concrete curing, and crews began preparing the curbs for new concrete work. On the Sebasticook River bridge, preparatory equipment was installed to prepare the site for pouring a new deck. Crews poured new deck concrete on the Route 152 bridge and began water curing. Coordination with Maine State Police ensured traffic was managed safely during a vehicle recovery near the project area.

Work continued on the Route 152 southbound bridge, where crews installed reinforcing steel, set up rails and supports for deck placement, and poured concrete at Abutment 2. Portions of the highway crossover were repaved after repairs to major potholes. Preparations also began for upcoming work on other bridge sites.

Despite winter weather, work steadily progressed. Crews continued removing old concrete, installing new forms and steel supports, and rebuilding bridge ends. Snow removal kept the site clear and safe.

On the Route 152 bridge, crews completed removing damaged concrete and began setting new deck forms. Repairs were also made to a temporary barrier and potholes nearby to maintain safe travel conditions.

On the I-95 northbound bridge over Madawaska Avenue, the contractor completed landscaping work by placing loam, seed, and mulch, while subcontractors installed temporary striping and guardrail. For the I-95 southbound bridge over the Sebasticook River, crews worked on forms and rebar for the deck, abutments, and wing walls. Repairs to welding beams were finalized, and a full repaving of the north crossover was completed under a temporary closure with a detour in place. Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) drains were installed, and deck rebar placement commenced, advancing critical structural elements.
At the I-95 southbound bridge over Route 152, the contractor began removing concrete from the four transition barriers, preparing for further structural work. These coordinated efforts represent significant advancements in both bridge rehabilitation and roadway improvements, ensuring the project's continued momentum.

On the Sebasticook River bridge, the asphalt has been milled, the bridge deck has been cut and fully removed, and concrete removal at Abutment 2 is underway. Throughout the month of June, workers switched the traffic pattern, reverting to phase 1 configuration. Pavement milling occurred in preparation for new pavement and membrane installation. Approaches were excavated. A compression joint was installed, as well as asphalt sealant on the curbed side of the bridge.

Throughout the month of May, crews continued to water cure the bridge deck. An expansion joint was welded in place and the abutment 2 backwall was formed up. Crews placed concrete for curb and joint for phase 2 of construction. All bearings were welded into place. The forms for curb and joint were removed. A high-performance membrane was placed on the phase 2 side of the bridge.
April 2024
Throughout April, crews worked on deck forms and overhangs. Rebar was placed, bent and tied. Crews placed the bidwell successfully. Common excavation occurred at abutment 2.
March 2024
The department has made progress on the I-95 northbound bridge over Madawaska Ave. Crews are actively placing forms and overhangs for the bridge deck, with concurrent efforts to remove concrete from abutment 1 backwall. Concrete placement for the abutment 1 backwall proceeded following the preparation of forms and rebar placement. Simultaneously, work is underway to remove the existing abutment 2 backwall. Despite challenges posed by storms, cleanup operations have been carried out.

Crews working on the I-95 North Bound bridge over Madawaska Ave placed bearings on Abutments and piers, as well as structural steel for phase 2.

Work on the Madawaska Ave bridge over I-95 NB saw workers remove the structural steel from the bridge, along with existing pedestals on abutments and piers. Contractor curing abutment pedestals and forming and placed pier pedestals.

Workers completed installing rebar and forms for the passing lane side of the deck and placed concrete. Continued clearing and grubbing of north crossover area in median and removed concrete from the abutment 2 backwall. Placed concrete for the Abutment 2 backwall and deck portion of the joint.

Northeast Paving installed forms for the deck and bunks, along with brackets for the overhangs. Forms and rebar for the abutment one backwall were installed and concrete placed.
September 2023
Workers installed seals in the joints of the I-95 southbound bridge over Madawaska Avenue. Pavement at the end of abutment one was saw cut. Traffic control devices were installed for the I-95 northbound bridge over Madawaska Ave. Rumble strips were removed and temporary pavement placed. Workers saw cut the bridge deck. The passing lane side of the deck was removed. Began removal of concrete at abutment 2.
August 2023
Construction on northbound bridge over Madawaska Ave and crossovers is set to begin in September.
July 2023
Performed repairs on the pier of the I-95 northbound bridge over North Main Street/Madawaska Road.
June 2023
Placed base and intermediate HMA pavement for the rest of the travel lane. Continued removing the overhang brackets from the bridge. Installed the bridge rail transitions and guardrail for the travel lane side. Contractor switched traffic over to grind out passing lane side. Excavated to approach slab and placed Aggregate Subbase Course Gravel. Continued grubbing of south crossover and installed culvert for crossover. Performing common excavation, placing of gravel and installed a culvert pipe on the south crossover. Placing protective shielding on the northbound bridge over North Main Street/ Madawaska Road. Placed gravel, installed a riprap downspout, and paved the approaches on the passing lane side of the southbound bridge over North Main Street/ Madawaska Road. Installed HMA surface pavement, painted lines and opened the southbound bridge over Madawaska Avenue to both lanes of traffic. Shut down one lane on northbound to work on the south crossover and for placing signposts. Continued pier repair work on the northbound bridge over Madawaska Avenue.
May 2023
Placed concrete for deck, expansion joint and curbs. Excavated for south trailing end of bridge on the travel way and placed ASC Gravel back in on I-95 Southbound Bridge over North Main Street/Madawaska Road. Installed bridge rail and snow fence on travel lane side. Installed high performance membrane. Fine graded and placed HMA for leading end of travel way. Removed forms and shielding from the southbound bridge and began installing them on the northbound bridge.
April 2023
Work continued through April on the I-95 Southbound Bridge over North Main Street/Madawaska Road Project, currently in Phase 2 of construction. The contractor installed bunks and formwork for the bridge deck as well as forms and rebar for Abutment 1. Forms were installed along with rebar for Abutment 2 and the deck. Crews worked Setting up Bidwell for deck placement, removed overhang brackets on passing lane side, and repaired concrete at Abutment 2 and at the pier.
March 2023
The contractor placed a temporary concrete wearing surface on Phase 1 and is removing shielding, bunks, and forms, from the underside of the bridge. Phase 1 is complete, except that the permanent wearing surface and approach pavement will need to be completed at a later date. Temporary concrete barrier has been relocated and traffic shifted so that Phase 2 can begin. Removed and replaced broken crash barrels. Removed existing bridge rail and cut bridge deck up for removal for Phase 2.
