Special purpose private schools (SPPS) are specialized schools approved in Maine, as out-of-district placements to provide educational programming and crisis stabilization for students who are unable to access their education in a less restrictive setting. SPPSs operate Day Treatment programs; providing coordinated and integrated behavioral, clinical, educational, emotional, medical, and social treatment in order to address referral concerns that prevented each student from accessing his or her education in a less restrictive setting.
