Educators play a critical role in ensure that students reach their full potential and graduate prepared for successful endeavors in college, career, and life.

The Maine DOE believes that a careful development of classroom knowledge and experience, continuous evaluation of technique, and ongoing professional development provides educators with the tools to meet the various educational needs of their students, and provide them with high quality learning experiences that set them up for a successful future.

The Maine DOE supports educators by qualifying preparation programs that are research-driven and classroom-based; issuing credentials to persons employed in, or under contract with public schools, and approved private schools; supports ongoing professional development opportunities that enhance and enrich current teaching practices; in addition to a multitude of educator effectiveness initiatives.
