Teacher of the Year Program

Maine TOY LogoThe Maine Teacher of the Year is an outstanding teacher who represents the thousands of excellent educators in Maine. They serve as an advocate for the teaching profession, education and students.

To be considered for nomination, a teacher must hold the appropriate professional certification for your position; be employed by a Maine public school, including a public charter school, career and technical center, or a publicly supported secondary school (a private school that enrolls 60 percent or more publicly funded students, sometimes referred to as "town academies"); be actively teaching students at least 50% of full-time at the time of nomination and during the year of service; and have been teaching for a minimum of five years.

Our Mission

To honor and recognize excellence in teaching, and highlight the importance and impact of the profession.
