Work Begins on Route 1 Improvement Project in Ogunquit

Ogunquit: Beginning the week of March 1, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will embark on an $13.5 million dollar project to reconstruct Route 1 in Ogunquit and build two new bridges over the Ogunquit and Josias Rivers.

R.J. Grondin & Sons of Gorham has been awarded the contract for work that is expected to continue through December, 2016. Due to the heavy tourism economy of the area, road construction will be suspended from June 18th through Labor Day. Though work on the two new bridges will continue, temporary bridges will keep traffic moving.

Bangor Union Street Bridge Project

Bangor ? Crews will be working on Interstate 95 during the overnight hours on the Union Street Bridge project. This work involves closing one lane of traffic at a time on the interstate northbound and/or southbound. All work will be performed between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

The schedule for the upcoming week is as follows:

Monday, April 13th: The northbound travel lane will be closed

Tuesday, April 14th: The northbound travel lane will be closed

Wednesday, April 15th: The northbound and southbound passing lanes will be closed

Piscataqua River Bridge Lane Closures

Kittery ? Crews will be performing light repair work on the I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge in Kittery on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14th and 15th.

On Tuesday, crews will be closing one lane northbound from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, crews will be closing one lane southbound from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Each lane closure will reduce traffic to two lanes during these repairs.

It is anticipated all work will be completed by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15th.

Road Reconstruction to Begin in Jay

Jay ? Crews will start a road reconstruction project on Routes 4/17 in Jay beginning on Monday, April 27th.

The project begins at the intersection of Pineau Street and extends northerly for 1.25 miles.

Motorists should expect slight delays through the construction zone that will have alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers.

Work includes a full reconstruction of the roadway along with new water main and sewer installations. In addition, there will be new granite curbing as well as drainage and safety improvements.

Joint Repair Work on Frank J. Wood Bridge

Brunswick ? Crews will be performing a bridge joint rehabilitation project on the Frank J. Wood Bridge that connects Brunswick and Topsham.

The project will begin on Sunday, April 26th. During the project, there will be a single lane traffic pattern controlled by flaggers between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Motorists may experience slight delays.

It is anticipated all work will be completed by June 20th.

Paving to Begin on Route 1 in Freeport

Freeport ? Crews will be paving a portion of Route 1 in Freeport beginning on Wednesday, April 29th.

The paving will take place on Route 1 from Exit 24 and proceed northerly for approximately 1.3 miles to the Brunswick line. Alternating one-way traffic will be controlled by flaggers. Motorists should anticipate slight delays through the construction zone.

Shaw Brothers of Gorham will perform this $550.000 project, which is anticipated to be completed by the first week of June.

Tree Clearing to Begin Along I-295

Freeport ? Crews will be clearing trees along I-295 for three weeks beginning with the mobilization of equipment tonight (Wednesday, April 29th).

All work will be between Exits 21 and 28 from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Sunday through Friday. This work will require the contractor, Drew Corp. of Lovell, ME., to close the travel lane within the work zone to safely clear trees and conduct the chipping operation on-site.

Motorists could experience slight delays.

Paving to Begin on Route 26 in Falmouth

Falmouth ? Crews will be paving on Route 26 in Falmouth beginning on Monday, May 4th.

The paving will begin 0.35 of a mile north of the junction of Falmouth Road, Gray Road and Mountain Road, extending 1.0 mile. The project ends 0.82 of a mile north of the junction of Route 26 and Eastern Avenue.

Motorists may experience slight delays as there will be alternating one-way traffic that will be controlled by flaggers for the duration of the project.

It is anticipated all work will be completed by mid-May, 2015.
