When must they report to Adult Protective Services?

Maine law requires that certain people report immediately to Adult Protective Services when the person knows or has reasonable cause to suspect that an incapacitated or dependent adult has been or is likely to be abused, neglected, or exploited.

How does a Mandated Reporter make a report?

Call APS 24/7 at 1-800-624-8404.

A supervisor or administrator of a person mandated to report to APS may not impede or inhibit the reporting, and a person making a good faith report may not be subject to any sanction for making a report.

Are there differences between Mandated Reporting for Adult Protective Services and Child Protective Services?

Yes – there are differences. If you are a mandated reporter for both adults and children, you should take training in both to understand your responsibilities.
