KnowBe4: Security Awareness

This page is dedicated to supporting local governments and school districts that are participating in the cybersecurity awareness training program and receiving licenses from KnowBe4. Here, you will find a variety of resources to assist you through the KnowBe4 implementation process including workshop session recordings, implementation guides, FAQs, and other resources.

Why Security Awareness?

Leveraging funding through the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP), the State of Maine has partnered with KnowBe4 and nuHarbor Security. KnowBe4 is a cybersecurity company best known for their Security Awareness Training and Simulated Phishing platform. nuHarbor Security is a cybersecurity company best known for cybersecurity, risk, and compliance management solutions and services, and will be providing technical support for implementation and security awareness training delivery.

The goal of this project is to equip interested counties, towns, and K-12 schools across Maine with the knowledge and confidence to help prevent, recognize, and report cybersecurity threats. For this program, the KnowBe4 platform is used to provide staff with centralized access to security awareness training modules, educational content, and regular security newsletters. To test effectiveness of training content, simulated phishing campaigns are coordinated. Simulated phishing campaigns are emails sent to staff via the KnowBe4 platform which look like malicious emails and are used to test staff’s ability to report malicious emails.

Bad actors frequently target individuals because influencing behavior is often more efficient than attempting to defeat technical safeguards. Human judgment plays a central role in cybersecurity. By participating in this program, staff will be better equipped on how to spot and report malicious emails. This will prevent incidents, breaches, or hacks before they occur.
