Time: 8am-5pm Saturday | 8am-4pm Sunday

Location:

CLC YMCA, 525 Main St. Damariscotta, ME 04543

Lincoln County EMA will be hosting “Disaster Preparedness and Survival”. This course is designed to prepare individuals and families how to prepare for, survive, and recover from a disaster.  Instructors will follow a “me, we, they” approach to prepare participants to care for themselves, their families, and their communities before, during, and after a disaster and whether they should evacuate of stay put. Through a combination of facilitated discussions and hands-on activities based on real-life scenarios, the instructors will demonstrate how planning, preparedness, and responsible actions may increase the chances of both surviving a disaster and recovering from it more quickly.

At the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe the elements involved in disaster preparation.
  • Explain how to survive various disasters, perform self-rescue, choose whether to shelter in-place or evacuate, and report status.
  • Demonstrate how to search for, rescue, and care for others safely and effectively.
  • Articulate the steps to take following a disaster to initiate the recovery process.
  • Select a disaster survival strategy.
