MDPB releases 2 clinical bulletins - COVID masking and ketamine shortages

The Medical Direction and Practices Board (MDPB) of the Maine EMS Board has released two clinical bulletins for EMS clinicians throughout the State of Maine.

The first bulletin speaks to changes in ketamine supplies, specifically regarding certain concentrations. Some manufacturers have discontinued production of the 500 mg/5 mL formulation, and the remaining suppliers are having difficulty keeping up with demand. As a result, there are concerns regarding the applicability of other concentrations as both intravenous and intramuscular agents. Please see the attached bulletin for more information and guidance.

In the second bulletin, the MDPB has promulgated guidance regarding masking and other safety provisions in the presence of the omicron variant.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to Maine EMS via email if you have any additional questions or concerns.
