What are the details of a Community Paramedic license?

  • Affiliation with a Community Paramedicine licensed agency is required.
  • CP licenses have an additive scope of practice on top of a base license (EMT AEMT, or Paramedic).
  • The State of Maine does not issue physical EMS license cards. You can download and print a copy of your license by logging into your eLicensing account.
  • Rules regarding the issuance, maintenance, and renewal of Maine EMS CP Licenses can be found in Chapter 19 of the Maine EMS Rules

To obtain a Maine EMS Community Paramedicine license:

  • Log in to your Maine eLicensing account and complete a "CP Personnel Application”. Within the application you must provide:
    • A verifiable copy of a transcript showing the successful completion of Maine EMS-approved training as described in Maine Community Paramedicine Education Standards, at a level appropriate for the desired level of licensure. Education must be obtained within two years of the date of application.
    • A Certificate of Completion of State of Maine Mandated Reporter Training
    • Submit a complete history of any action taken against any emergency medical services certification or license or professional certification or license that the applicant currently holds or has ever held.
  • Once all materials have been received, processing may take up to 10 BUSINESS days.
  • Your expiration date of your Maine Community Paramedicine license will align with your base license expiration date.
  • You MUST maintain your base Maine EMS license and Maine CP license, along with affiliation with a CP agency, to provide CP services.
