Construction to Start on Route 3 in Trenton

Trenton ? Beginning April 1st, crews will be back to begin preparing areas along Route 3 in Trenton for construction that will last through mid-June.

Work includes adding turning lanes, installing guardrails and sidewalks as well as finishing the paving effort from last season. This work will be conducted Monday through Saturday with two lanes of traffic open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Alternating one-way traffic will occur from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

While paving isn?t expected to start until mid-May, all other work will commence as weather allows.

Sarah Mildred Long Bridge is Closed

Kittery ? The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge in Kittery is closed to all traffic. At approximately 1:30 p.m. a tanker struck the bridge, forcing officials from New Hampshire DOT to close the bridge to traffic.

Officials will inspect, repair any damage and then test the bridge prior to opening back up to motorists.

It is anticipated the bridge will NOT be open for today's afternoon/evening commute.

Crews from MaineDOT will assist NHDOT with all necessary procedures.

Bar Harbor Bridge Work

Bar Harbor ? MaineDOT crews begin work on the Babsons Bridge in Bar Harbor this week. This project begins at the intersection of Route 102 and extends east on Route 198 for approximately 1,500 ft.

Temporary traffic lights will be on scene to assist in alternating one-way traffic through the work zone during daytime hours. Both lanes of travel will be open during the evening and overnight.

This work includes sealing the surface deck to maintain the service life of this bridge. It is anticipated the project will be completed by the middle of May.

Fryeburg Bridge Closed

Fryeburg ? Due to a structural deficiency, the Red Iron McNeil Road Bridge on McNeil Road in Fryeburg is closed. Crews have placed signs guiding motorists along a short detour route.

Travelers are advised to use caution and to follow the detour route.

Kittery On-Ramp Improvements to Begin

Kittery ? Crews will begin work on the southbound I-95 on-ramp in Kittery on Thursday, April 4th. Ramp ?M? leads motorists from the Kittery outlet shopping area on Route 1 onto the interstate for those going south. Wearing surface replacement and incidental work will reduce the current two lane ramp to one lane until construction activity ends in mid-June.

Motorists may experience delays during peak travel times.

Wyman and Simpson, Inc. of Richmond will perform this work which will extend the life of the bridge deck and upgrade safety features.

I-95 Exit 113 Nothbound On-Ramp Closing

Augusta ? The northbound on-ramp of I-95 Exit 113 in Augusta will be temporarily closed beginning Monday, April 22. Drivers wishing to enter I-95 northbound lanes from Route 3 and north Augusta will be guided to a detour on Route 104 to the northbound on-ramp at Exit 120 in Sidney.

The detour will remain in effect for approximately 30 days, weather permitting, while work crews reconstruct the Exit 113 northbound on-ramp. MaineDOT is placing numerous signs in the area and along the detour route, and is asking drivers to please plan ahead and allow extra time for their travel.

Southport Bridge Deck Work to Begin

Southport ? Work begins on the deck of the Southport Bridge on Monday, April 29th. The project includes replacing parts of the grid deck that have worn over time.

Motorists should expect short delays with alternating one-way traffic during the daylight hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the end of May.

Night work, which includes alternating one-way traffic, begins at the end of May from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

It is anticipated all work will be completed by the end of June.

Wiscasset Bridge Project to Begin

Wiscasset ? Work to replace the bridge wearing surface and joints on the Donald E. Davey Bridge in Wiscasset begins on Friday, April 26th.

For the duration of this work, there will be two 11 ft. 6 inch lanes of traffic from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and one lane of alternating one-way traffic between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

While work may occur both during the day and nighttime hours, no work will be allowed on Sundays between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wide loads will be restricted.

Inspection to Start on Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge

Deer Isle ? The bi-annual NBIS (National Bridge Inspection Standards) bridge inspection on the Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge will start on Monday, April 29th.

This bridge, on the Deer Isle-Sedgwick town line, will include alternating one-way traffic with flaggers to assist motorists.

Travelers should expect slight delays.

Weather permitting, the inspection, performed by TransSystems of Boston, will be completed by the end of May.
