Construction is set to begin on two different sections of Route 1 in Washington County. Crews will be repairing box culverts and pipe culverts before repaving sections of Route 1. Construction work is expected to continue until January, 2011, at which time crews will suspend work during the winter months, then resume work in May.

Starting the week of September 20, Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) bridge maintenance crews will begin work to replace part of the wearing surface on the MCRR Overpass Bridge on Route 1-A in Dedham.

Construction crews are set to begin work this Friday, September 17 on a plan to retrieve the crane and stabilize part of the Androscoggin riverbank along Route 136 at the Auburn/Durham town line. The crane slid down the riverbank when the slope collapsed on September 2. MaineDOT will also post signage directing motorists to a new, shorter detour route that utilizes Route 196 instead of the current detour on local roads.

The public is invited to attend the Grand Opening of the 85-mile multi-use Down East Sunrise Trail. There will be a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 21 at the trailhead at Washington Junction in Hancock.

The Maine Department of Transportation is hosting an informational meeting to discuss upcoming construction on the Mountain Division Rail Corridor. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 5 from 6-8 p.m. at the Westbrook High School at 125 Stroudwater Street in Westbrook.

Hundreds of Maine children will walk or bike to school with family members, school staff and volunteers in celebration of International Walk to School Day, Wednesday, October 6. Organized events are planned at schools across the state during the week of October 4-8, and some schools will continue holding events throughout the fall.

Maine Department of Transportation Commissioner David Cole, Passamaquoddy Governor Joseph Socobasin and other state and tribal officials gathered along the banks of Grand Lake Stream Tuesday (November 2, 2010) to officially open the new Milford Street Bridge in Grand Lake Stream Plantation.

The new $1.7 million bridge is the result of a unique funding partnership between the state and the tribe that improves transportation infrastructures that access or are on tribal lands.

This winter, MaineDOT, the Maine State Police and AAA of Northern New England are urging motorists to slow down in winter conditions, give plow trucks plenty of room, and prepare your car for snowy weather before heading out on the roads.

Nearly a full month ahead of schedule, the new realignment of Route 136 in Auburn opened to traffic this morning at 9:30, providing motorists with an uninterrupted route between Auburn and Freeport.

The opening marks the culmination of a three-month collaborative effort to reopen the road as quickly as possible after a series of riverbank collapses along this stretch of the Androscoggin River had damaged sections of Route 136 and threatened an abutting residence.

Following the discovery of an undocumented eagle?s nest along the previously approved proposed Wiscasset Bypass corridor, the US Army Corp of Engineers (ACOE) has informed the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) that the proposed route is no longer acceptable, and MaineDOT has been asked to resubmit documents supporting earlier alternatives towards the goal of establishing a new route for the Wiscasset Bypass.
