Path 2: Make Learning Visible - Surface, Deep, Transfer

The ability to navigate world events, see underlying ideas and make deep connections is vital to our learners who are bombarded with information from various news and social platforms. Conceptual understandings and visible learning strategies allow students to face various sources of information and situations with cognitive flexibility. Deep conceptual learning allows the students to apply their learning to solve complex and rich tasks.

Module 1: Surface

Visible Learning for Mathematics

“Surface learning is the initiation to new idea. It begins with development of conceptual understanding, and then at the right time, labels and procedures are explicitly introduced to give structure to concepts.” p. 29
