Bangor Broadway Bridge Project

The Bangor I-95/Broadway Bridge project, awarded to New England Infrastructure Inc. in June 2023, is a comprehensive, multi-year initiative involving bridge replacements and intersection enhancements funded through the Bridge and Multimodal Programs. This project encompasses the replacement of both northbound and southbound bridges in a phased approach and is scheduled for completion in late 2026.

The initial stage focuses on constructing a temporary bridge on the north side of the existing I-95 southbound lane. This will involve the relocation of southbound traffic to the temporary bridge, moving northbound traffic to the old southbound bridge, demolishing the existing northbound bridge, and subsequently replacing it. Once the new northbound bridge is completed, northbound traffic will transition to this structure, and the existing southbound bridge will be demolished and replaced. Following this, southbound traffic will shift to the new southbound bridge, and the temporary southbound bridge will be removed.

The Multimodal project component will enhance intersections at Broadway and Alden Street, realign southbound on and off ramps, and improve intersections at Broadway, Earl Avenue, and Central Street. Please note that there will be times during construction when detours of Broadway and I-95 will be necessary, especially during bridge demolition and setting of new bridge beams. Any closures and detours will be conducted at night to minimize disruption.

The contractor has commenced widening the southbound off-ramp. Implementation of the traffic control plan is in progress, with advanced warning signs and barriers installed. Survey work has provided critical layout information for the south-bound exit ramp. Excavation and gravel operations are underway in this area.
