November 2024

Throughout November, progress continued on the Searsport Route 1 Highway Construction project under the leadership of Gordon Contracting. The prime contractor focused on cleaning pavement, performing traffic control for hand-placed paving operations, installing mailbox posts, detectable warning plates, and Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at crosswalks. Crews also fine-graded entrances and sidewalks in preparation for paving, backed the edges of pavement, placed loam, and conducted general site clean-up to maintain a safe and organized work environment. Subcontractor Shawn Thyng completed the placement of hand-placed hot mix asphalt (HMA) on sidewalks and entrances, while On-The-Line began striping and painting additional pavement markings. These combined efforts are bringing the project closer to completion, enhancing roadway functionality and pedestrian safety.

October 2024

Throughout October, significant progress was made on the Route 1 highway construction project in Searsport, led by prime contractor Gordon Contracting. The team completed raising structures to grade in preparation for surface paving, installed mailbox posts, and fine-graded entrances and sidewalks for pavement. Additional efforts included placing loam, seeding, and applying mulch. Subcontractor Shawn Thyng placed Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) on drives, sidewalks, and around raised structures, while Dirigo SlipForm installed concrete curbs and sidewalks. Subcontractor NEP began placing surface HMA. Utility crews continued removing old poles, and windmill components exited daily from Trundy Road between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., traveling north through the project area.

September 2024

Gordon Contracting is making steady progress, raising structures to grade throughout the project in preparation for surface paving. Crews are also preparing sidewalks and entrances for new pavement, with loam placed and seed/mulch applied in key areas. Subcontractor Shawn Thyng is placing Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) on driveways and sidewalks, while Dirigo SlipForm completes concrete curb installations and finishes the last two concrete walkways. Donnie’s Landscape, with assistance from MaineDOT Kent Cooper, has planted over 700 shrubs and other vegetation at the old Mill Stream crossing, enhancing the area’s aesthetics and ecosystem. Utilities continue removing old poles as windmill parts are transported daily between 4 AM and 6 AM from Trundy Road, passing through the project area on Route 1.

August 2024

Progress continues on the Route 1 construction project in Searsport. Prime contractor Gordon Contracting has been raising structures to grade in preparation for surface paving across the project. Fine-grading has been completed on the northern end, with base paving already in place. Subcontractors NEP and Dirigo SlipForm are actively placing asphalt and concrete curbing, respectively. Utilities have successfully removed old lines and are now taking down the old poles. Daily windmill part transports continue between 4 AM and 6 AM through the project area.

July 2024

The Route 1 highway construction project in Searsport is advancing smoothly, with ongoing efforts to grade sideroads, driveways, and sidewalk areas downtown. Recent activities include shaping slopes, placing loam, raising catch basins, and installing drainage while box-cutting the old roadway and adding new gravel. Sidewalk improvements are underway with continued brick installation by subcontractor Stoneage Stoneworks. Utilities are actively transferring lines to new poles and removing old poles. Additionally, windmill parts are being transported daily from Trundy Road through the project area.

June 2024

Throughout the month of June Gordon Contracting continued to grade sideroads, mainline shoulders, and mainline left side to north end of Project. Subcontractor Washburn Electric has installed conduit between light bases. Gordon fine-graded sidewalks in town in preparation of pavement. Subcontractor Dirigo Slipform has been installing granite and concrete slipform curbs. Utilities have been intermittently working on transferring their lines to the new poles.

May 2024

Throughout May crews set up the southbound detour on Route 1. Ongoing efforts include excavating to subgrade, gravel placement, loam placement, and transferring utilities to new poles. Crews have set granite curb where areas have been readied for such. The $17.7 million dollar project is scheduled for completion in 2025.

April 2024

Crews from The department have implemented a southbound detour on Route 1 with temporary pavement laid down. Old pavement is being milled, with excavation of earth happening alongside drainage items being installed. Utilities have been transferring lines to new poles.

March 2024

Crews from the department, and contractor Consolidated have been actively transferring lines onsite, while the Water District conducted service remarking in preparation for milling operations. Gordon facilitated sewer manhole cleaning utilizing a vacuum truck. Notably, the installation of an outlet pipe was successfully completed. A start-up meeting was held onsite on February 28th to coordinate efforts. Additionally, the team placed message boards and detour signage, removed granite curb sections, and erected temporary chain link fences as necessary. Pavement milling operations were initiated alongside the commencement of two drainage operations.

December 2023

The detour section of Rte. 1 between Mortland Rd. and Prospect St. has been reopened to two-way traffic and will remain open until work in this area resumes in Spring of 2024. No work is expected to be taking place on the project between December 23, 2023 and January 1, 2024. Depending on winter weather conditions, the contractor may return to continue working on drainage installation between Hamilton Marine & Station Ave. along with further project cleanup beginning early January 2024. Further updates will be provided when more specifics are available.

November 2023

Subcontractor Northeast Paving has continued working on paving base and intermediate layers on travel lanes & shoulders between Prospect St. and Pike Ave. Prime Contractor Gordon Contracting continues working on grading sidewalks, driveways, and preparing for more curb installation behind the paving crew. Gordon also has multiple crews continuing drainage work between Black Rd. and Trundy Rd.

October 2023

Work performed includes catch basin installation, excavation of subgrade, and preparing the fine grade to receive gravel.

September 2023

Prime Contractor Gordon Contracting has one crew working on fine grading sidewalks and entrances between Black Rd. and Mortland Rd. Subcontractor Northeast Paving has started working on paving first lift on sidewalks and entrances in the same section of the project. The remainder of Gordon Contracting’s crews have continued work on drainage installation between Savage Rd. and Prospect St.

August 2023

The contractor completed the first two layers of pavement between Black Road. and Mortland Road. One crew remained in that section of the project to work on adjusting drainage structures to grade, curb installation and sidewalk construction during the day. A second crew worked on drainage and shoulder construction between Savage Road. and Prospect Street at night.
