February 2024

Throughout February, Reed and Reed installed span steel and crane mat decking for span 11 of the temporary construction trestle. Additionally, they made progress in building and installing formwork for the pier 3 footing and completed the curing process for the abutment #2 right side breast wall. Reed and Reed also advanced the installation of the cofferdam at abutment #1 and commenced excavation for the abutment #1 seal, demonstrating their commitment to project timelines and structural integrity. Meanwhile, HB Fleming contributed to the project by installing the driving frame for the pier 2 trestle finger pile and placing two downstream piles for the pier 2 trestle finger. These collaborative efforts signify significant strides in the bridge construction process, reflecting dedication and expertise from both Reed and Reed and HB Fleming teams.

January 2024

Throughout January workers from Reed & Reed began installation of the work platform for pier 3 seal coring. The abutment 2 leveling slab was stripped and cured. Workers began forming and placing reinforced steel for the abutment 2 breast wall. Crews from HB Fleming repaired and reinstalled their driving frame for temporary trestle bent #12.

2023

December 2023

Reed and Reed cleaned and excavated to sound ledge and completed cofferdam installation at pier 3. Seal concrete was placed for pier 3. Ledge removal operations continued at pier 2. HB Fleming installed the driving frame and drilled pile for the temporary trestle bent #11.

November 2023

Reed and Reed finished anchoring the span 8 steel and installed the crane mat decking, installed walers for the temporary structural support at the existing abutment #2 and started excavating to ledge, and completed installing the sheet piling for the pier 3 cofferdam and started excavating for the seal placement. Meanwhile, HB Fleming installed the driving frame and drilled pile for the temporary trestle bent #10.

October 2023

Reed and Reed completed excavation work on the Brunswick Temporary Pedestrian Sidewalk, adjusted existing curbs, and commenced forming for concrete. Additionally, they wrapped up the fabrication of the driving frame for the pier 3 cofferdam and successfully formed and placed concrete for the temporary pedestrian sidewalk on the Brunswick approach, all while mobilizing a 518 crane.

Meanwhile, HB Fleming installed the framework for pile installation at the pier 3 temporary trestle finger and placed two out of the four piles for the same trestle finger. Subsequently, they completed the installation of the remaining two piles for the pier 3 temporary trestle finger, installed the driving frame for the temporary bent #7 pile installation, and mobilized the Soilmec machine for installing the casing for the temporary work platform at abutment #1.

Reed and Reed further advanced the project by installing cross bracing and span steel, along with crane mat decking, for the pier 3 trestle finger.

September 2023

Work on the temporary trestle consisted of the following through September: Installed bent #5 pipe pile. Installed bent #4 and bent #5 pile caps. Installed cross bracing for bent #5. Installed anchor rods and formed grout pads for bent #6. Installed span 3 steel and started span 4 steel erection. Installed crane mat decking for span 3.

August 2023

Reed and Reed continued hauling in material for the approach of the temporary work trestle. They installed grout pads and anchor rods for pipe piles at bent #1 and bent #2 of the temporary trestle. Reed installed the header beam of bent #1 of the temporary trestle. They also began forming up the lower lift of the leveling slab for retaining wall #1 on the Topsham side of the project. Reed and Reed excavated, installed gravel, and fine graded for the temporary sidewalk in Topsham. They placed concrete and installed detectable warning fields for the temporary sidewalk in Topsham. Grout pads for the pipe pile at bent #4 of the temporary trestle were placed. Began drilling the anchor rods for the pipe pile at bent #5 of the temporary trestle.
