Title VI Information

In accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other authorities, the MaineDOT is committed to ensuring that the fundamental principles of equal opportunity are upheld in all decisions involving our employees and contractors/consultants, and to ensuring that the public-at-large is afforded access to our programs and services.

To that end, no person shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any MaineDOT program or activity on the grounds of race, color, or national origin.

Required State and Federal Posters

MaineDOT must ensure that all state and federal posters are present and available to all workers at the construction site. The upkeep of the bulletin board is the contractor’s responsibility. The contractor’s bulletin board must be displayed on the first day of construction activity on a covered project. It must be displayed in an area that is accessible to all employees and the general public, 24/7.

ADA Accessibility Program

MaineDOT ADA Policy Statement

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibit a public entity from discriminating against qualified persons with disabilities in access to facilities and services that the public entity provides. For MaineDOT and organizations that receive funds from MaineDOT, these services, facilities, or activities are related to the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of transportation systems.

Civil Rights Office

The MaineDOT Civil Rights Office is responsible for ensuring compliance with anti-discrimination, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), and labor law requirements for all federal-aid funded road and bridge construction projects. The Civil Rights Office also ensures that no person in the State of Maine is excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability under any program administered by the Maine Department of Transportation.

10 Commandments of a Good Road

Get Water Away from a Road

Drainage cannot be emphasized enough in road construction and maintenance. Water affects the entire serviceability of a road. Too much water in the base materials weakens the road. Water allowed to remain on top of a gravel or paved road weakens the surface and, when combined with traffic, causes potholes, cracking, and rutting. If improperly channeled, water causes soil erosion and breakdown of pavement edges.
