South Berwick Bridge Painting

SOUTH BERWICK - The Maine Department of Transportation is repainting parts of the South Berwick Bridge. The bridge carries Brattle Street over Great Works River. Workers will be removing rust and repainting parts of the bridge to extend the life of the bridge's beams, bearings, and rails. Flaggers will be used to control traffic when necessary. Copia Specialty Contractors, Inc. of Bangor is the contractor on this work, which is expected to be finished by August 9th.

Temporary Bridge Closure in Madrid Township

MADRID TOWNSHIP - The Maine Department of Transportation will begin working to replace the surface of the Village Bridge in Madrid Township on July 22nd. The bridge carries Reeds Mill Road over the Sandy River. Because the bridge is so narrow, we will be closing it on July 29th. It will remain closed during the entire construction period. Reeds Mill Road traffic will be detoured using Route 4, Toothaker Pond Road, and Fish Hatchery Road. MaineDOT crews are doing the work on this project, which is expected to be finished by August 28th.

Bridge Replacement in North Fryeburg

FRYEBURG - The Maine Department of Transportation will be replacing the Kimball Brook Bridge in North Fryeburg. The bridge carries Route 113 (North Fryeburg Road) over Kimball Brook near the North Fryeburg Fire Department. Construction will begin on July 22nd. Workers will be removing two culvert pipes and putting in a box culvert. There will be a period of no more than seven days when the road will be closed to traffic. We haven't yet determined exactly when that period will be. During the closure, vehicles will be rerouted to New Road and Union Hill Road. Reed & Reed, Inc.

Road Striping Operations

AUGUSTA - The Maine Department of Transportation will be striping highway exit ramps over the next few weeks. All work will be done after dusk and before dawn to minimize traffic impacts. Striping operations will begin in the Bangor area on July 21st. Work on I-95 and I-395 should take approximately one week. Striping operations between Newport and Portland are expected to begin on July 28th. Crews will focus on the ramps along I-95, I-295, and U.S. Route 1. We expect all striping work will be completed by August 9th. All work is weather-dependent.

Route 15 Paving Work in Penobscot County

PENOBSCOT COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation is performing paving work on a nine-mile-long stretch of Route 15 in Penobscot County. The work area begins at the Charleston-Corinth line and extends south into Kenduskeag, ending 3.5 miles north of the Glenburn town line. Traffic restrictions will create some delays. Northeast Paving of Hermon is the contractor on this job, which we expect will be finished by September 21st.

Traffic Restored to Madawaska Bridge

MADAWASKA - Bridge inspection work on the Madawaska International Bridge necessitating full bridge and lane closures has concluded earlier then expected, and while the inspection will continue until complete, MaineDOT anticipates little to no impact to the traveling public through the remainder of the inspection process.

The structure has known deficiencies, structural concerns, and a rapid rate of deterioration that need to be properly evaluated annually to allow for continued safe use. It is currently posted at a five-ton weight limit. The bridge was constructed in 1920.

Final Stage of River Road Reconstruction in Windham

WINDHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation is beginning full road construction work on a three-mile-long stretch of River Road in Windham. Once this work is finished, the entire length of River Road will have been fully rebuilt. The current work segment begins at the Westbrook line and stretches north for approximately three miles. Right now, our work is focused on preparing the area by clearing trees, moving utilities, and working on drainage.
