Commissioner's Office
Acting Commissioner Timothy E. Peabody
Tim Peabody serves as Acting Commissioner for Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, overseeing the Department's statewide efforts related to fish and wildlife conservation, outdoor recreation, public access, law enforcement, education, and natural resource stewardship.
Tim began his career with the Department in 1983 as a Maine Game Warden. Over the course of more than two decades with the Maine Warden Service, he served in a variety of leadership roles, including Game Warden Investigator and Sergeant, before ultimately serving as Colonel and Chief Warden for the final six years of his tenure prior to retiring from the Warden Service in 2004.
Following his retirement from the Department, Tim spent ten years at Unity College, where he served as Associate Professor in the Conservation Law Program and later as Director of the Center for Natural Resource Management and Protection. In those roles, he helped educate and mentor future conservation and natural resource professionals while continuing to work closely on issues related to conservation law, outdoor recreation, and environmental stewardship.
Tim returned to MDIFW in 2015 when he was appointed Deputy Commissioner. In that role, he worked closely with Department leadership and staff on agency operations, legislative initiatives, policy development, budgeting, personnel oversight, and coordination with partner organizations, stakeholders, and other state agencies.
Throughout his career, Tim has remained deeply connected to Maine's outdoor traditions and the people who value them. His experience spans conservation law enforcement, natural resource management, public policy, outdoor recreation, and public service. As Acting Commissioner, he is committed to supporting the Department's mission of preserving, protecting, and enhancing Maine's inland fisheries and wildlife resources while ensuring future generations can continue to enjoy Maine's outdoors.
