Plans in place to retrieve crane, new detour established for Route 136

Construction crews are set to begin work this Friday, September 17 on a plan to retrieve the crane and stabilize part of the Androscoggin riverbank along Route 136 at the Auburn/Durham town line. The crane slid down the riverbank when the slope collapsed on September 2. MaineDOT will also post signage directing motorists to a new, shorter detour route that utilizes Route 196 instead of the current detour on local roads.

Ceremony In Grand Lake Stream Marks Bridge Partnership

Maine Department of Transportation Commissioner David Cole, Passamaquoddy Governor Joseph Socobasin and other state and tribal officials gathered along the banks of Grand Lake Stream Tuesday (November 2, 2010) to officially open the new Milford Street Bridge in Grand Lake Stream Plantation.

The new $1.7 million bridge is the result of a unique funding partnership between the state and the tribe that improves transportation infrastructures that access or are on tribal lands.

Route 136 Reopens nearly one month ahead of schedule

Nearly a full month ahead of schedule, the new realignment of Route 136 in Auburn opened to traffic this morning at 9:30, providing motorists with an uninterrupted route between Auburn and Freeport.

The opening marks the culmination of a three-month collaborative effort to reopen the road as quickly as possible after a series of riverbank collapses along this stretch of the Androscoggin River had damaged sections of Route 136 and threatened an abutting residence.

Eagle's nest alters Wiscasset bypass plans

Following the discovery of an undocumented eagle?s nest along the previously approved proposed Wiscasset Bypass corridor, the US Army Corp of Engineers (ACOE) has informed the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) that the proposed route is no longer acceptable, and MaineDOT has been asked to resubmit documents supporting earlier alternatives towards the goal of establishing a new route for the Wiscasset Bypass.

MaineDOT To Host Informational Open House concerning Route 1 improvements

On Wednesday, December 8, The Maine Department of Transportation is hosting an Open House to discuss possible transportation improvements to Route 1 in Warren.

The Open House is scheduled to begin at 5:30 at the Warren Community School on Eastern Road in Warren. There will be a short presentation to begin the event, but the remainder of the open house will be informal discussion and review of project area.
