Woodfords Corner in Portland to Have Major Closure and Detour

Portland - Pan Am Railways will be rebuilding the crossing at Forest Avenue between Concord Street and Ocean Avenue as well as rebuilding the crossing on Saunders Street.

This work requires that a closure be put in place at this location beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7th and will remain in place until approximately 3:00 a.m. Monday, September 10th. Crews will be working day and night to ensure there is no impact to Monday morning commuter traffic

This work is part of the safety improvements associated with the Woodfords Corner reconstruction project. During these upgrades, Forest Avenue must be closed in the vicinity of the railroad crossing.

Southbound traffic on Forest Avenue will be detoured southbound onto Stevens Avenue to Woodfords Street, then eastbound on Woodford Street back to Forest Avenue. Northbound traffic on Forest Avenue will be detoured westbound on Woodford Street to Stevens Avenue, then northbound on Stevens Avenue back to Forest Avenue. Due to the heavy traffic anticipated during the detour, motorists planning on passing through this location are encouraged to find alternate routes.

Businesses on Forest Avenue will remain open and may be accessed from Forest Avenue. However, traffic will not be able to get through the area of railroad crossing construction. The flashing railroad crossing signals will be upgraded after the railroad track crossing improvements but will not require the road to be closed.
