Two Rumford Bridge Projects to Begin

Rumford ? Beginning on Monday, May 9th, a $2 million bridge re-decking project will begin on the Upper Canal Bridge on Bridge Street in Rumford that will require a full closure and detour. At the same time, a nearly $1.6 million painting project will begin nearby on the Morse Bridge, also located on Bridge Street.

The Morse Bridge project will allow a single lane of westbound traffic only. Heavy truck traffic will be detoured onto Route 2 which will add about 1.6 miles. One sidewalk will be maintained on the bridge for pedestrians.

During the projects, the Rumford Falls Visitor Center and Veteran?s Memorial Park will remain open.

Equipment for the painting project will be parked along the west side of River Street using some parking spaces parallel to the Androscoggin River.

While weather dependent, both projects are expected to be completed by late October, 2016.

Motorists are encouraged to follow the detour signs and to drive safely through the work zones.
