CUMBERLAND – The Maine Department of Transportation will be working on the replacement of the Tuttle Road bridge over I-295 and US Route 1 starting on September 2, 2025. The work is scheduled to be completed by September 2027.
Current traffic will continue to use the existing bridge during the majority of the construction of the new bridge. Once the new structure and approaches are built, traffic will be switched to the new bridge at which point the old bridge will be demolished.
In addition to the bridge work, an All-Way stop at the intersection of Tuttle and Middle Roads will be implemented this fall to improve the safety of this high crash intersection. Traffic will see minimal impact until next summer when the new approach work will begin and alternating one way traffic controlled by flaggers will commence. Traffic is expected to be moved onto the new bridge late next year with the demolition of the old bridge and cleanup extending into 2027.
The contractor on this project is Reed and Reed of Woolwich, Maine. The contract amount is $12,939,536.74.
