Section of Route 128 in Woolwich to be Closed

Woolwich ? A section of Route 128 in Woolwich will be closed for approximately 90 days beginning on Tuesday, August 6th at 7 a.m. for a culvert replacement.

Signs and message boards will be in place to guide motorists around the work zone which is located approximately 2.26 miles northerly of the intersection of Route 127 and Route 128.

The work zone is very narrow. Therefore, attempting to maintain traffic within the project limits would not be safe for workers or the traveling public. There will be full access on either side of the work area.

The project will first consist of clearing trees and performing excavation for new utility poles and associated lines and hardware, prior to removing the current culvert.

Once the culvert segments and supporting structures are in place, the roadway will begin to be re-built with gravel and then paved.

Because of the proximity to the Kennebec River, crews will only be able to work during low tide which adds to the project timeline.

This $494,000 project is being performed by Wyman and Simpson, Inc. of Richmond.
