Sarah Mildred Long Bridge Temporary Closure

Augusta, ME  (July 8, 2025) – The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) along with the New Hampshire DOT will conduct an inspection of the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge Tuesday, July 15, 2025 and Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The lift bridge carries the Route 1 Bypass over the Piscataqua River between Kittery, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

In order to facilitate the inspection of mechanical components of the bridge, roadway traffic will be closed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on both days. Traffic will be rerouted to the Piscataqua River (I-95) Bridge and the Memorial Bridge during the closure.

Uniformed officers, traffic control devices, changeable message signs, and social media posts will inform motorists about the closure and provide updates as necessary.
