Ramps To Close at Forest Avenue Interchange Tonight - Interstate 295 Bridges Project Ahead of Schedule

Portland, ME. Construction crews are ahead of schedule on this season?s Interstate 295 repair project. As a result, work on the bridges that cross Forest Avenue and Preble Street can begin earlier than planned. Long-term ramp closures at the Forest Avenue interchange will go into effect after tonight?s evening commute.

According to MaineDOT, the Exit 6B/Forest Avenue off-ramp and the ?eastbound? Forest Avenue on-ramp will close overnight tonight and remained closed for the duration of work at that location. Both ramps affect I-295 northbound traffic only.

Friday morning commuters should seek alternate routes. Suggested detours include using the Franklin Street interchange to exit or enter Interstate 295 northbound.

In addition, motorists should be alert to changing traffic patterns as through lanes are established within the new work zone.

Drivers are urged to visit MaineDOT?s website at mainedot.gov for more details including maps, updates, and to sign up for email alerts. The website also features eight webcams, updated every five minutes, offering both northbound and southbound views of I-295. Motorists can now check for possible traffic congestion before they head out onto the Interstate.

While highway work is always weather dependent, MaineDOT estimates that the bridge work will be done in September and night paving operations will finish up in October.

MaineDOT appreciates the patience of all motorists during this construction period, and also asks motorists to drive safely through all work zones.
