Paving Work on Route 3 in Bar Harbor

BAR HARBOR - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing paving work on Route 3 in Bar Harbor during the first few weeks of this month. We will be reinstating the one-way detour that uses Park Loop Road. Access to all homes and businesses along Route 3 will be maintained throughout the paving process.

Most recently, crews have been working on curbing near the Acadia National Park entrance and around Sand Point Road. They have also been working to widen the shoulders at the end of Sand Point Road. Also, crews are working to improve drainage. We are building ADA-compliant ramps at various locations along the project route.

Most of the project work is on track to be finished in June unless weather affects our schedule. The reconstruction of Route 3 will result in an improved roadway, paved shoulders for bicyclists and pedestrians, new sidewalks, and many other important upgrades.
