HALLOWELL - The Maine Department of Transportation will be paving Water Street in Hallowell next week. This will be one of the final steps in MaineDOT's downtown revitalization project.
The work will begin on Monday, May 20th and last four days. Crews will begin work at daybreak and plan to finish by 3:00 p.m. As with all outdoor work, this paving is dependent on the weather.
The work will be done in two segments: from the Winthrop Street intersection south to Temple Street and from the Winthrop Street intersection north to the railroad trestle. On May 20th, contractors plan to start paving from the granite crosswalk at the intersection of Water and Winthrop Streets south to just beyond Temple Street. On Tuesday, crews will perform the same operation on the other side of Water Street. On Wednesday and Thursday, the contractor will pave from the north side of the granite crosswalk at Winthrop Street to the end of the project near the railroad trestle. MaineDOT is requesting no parking on either side of the parts of Water Street that are being paved on any given day.
MaineDOT feels this is the quickest and safest operation schedule while still producing a quality product. As always, please be attentive and safe when passing through our work zones.
