Old Belgrade Road to be Closed

The Old Belgrade Road will be closed temporarily from 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 18th through Tuesday, July 23rd at 6 a.m. to allow for the installation of large culverts at Stone Brook.

The road will be closed to through traffic immediately east of the new hospital entrance. For residents and businesses on Old Belgrade Road west of Stone Brook including Maine General Medical Center, access will be from Route 27 (Civic Center Drive) and Bog Road. For residents and businesses east of Stone Brook, access will be from Route 104. MaineDOT is placing numerous signs in the area and along the detour routes, and is asking drivers to please plan ahead and allow extra time for their travel.

The temporary closure of the Old Belgrade Road is necessary to allow for the placement of twin 8-foot diameter reinforced concrete culverts through which Stone Brook will flow.

The work is part of the improvements being made to the Exit 113 interchange and nearby roadways and intersections. Exit 113 Project Manager Shawn Smith of MaineDOT stated, ?The work our contractors are doing in this area will result in important upgrades and improvements that will improve traffic flow, convenience and safety?. Smith continued, ?Putting these new large culverts in for Stone Brook is an upgrade that will provide decades of benefit as part of the overall roadway system here.?
