Nighttime Ramp Closures Scheduled on I-295

PORTLAND. A series of I-295 ramp closures will start tonight as construction crews begin the process of re-painting stripes on the recently repaved roadway.

This work will require that the I-295 Northbound Exit 5 off-ramp, and the Fore River Parkway and Congress Street on-ramps to I-295 Northbound each be closed during the overnight hours tonight.

The Park Avenue I-295 NB on-ramp will remain open tonight, but will be closed tomorrow night along with a repeat of tonight?s closures.

On Thursday, I-295 NB Exit 5 and Exit 6 will be close for striping. The ramps will not be closed at the same time, but each ramp will close at some time during the night.

Ramps closures tonight through Thursday night will take place between 8 PM and 6 AM. Message boards along I-295 will notify drivers in advance which ramps will be closed each night.

Ramp closures are anticipated for Friday night, as well, and will occur between 10 PM and 8 AM. However, determining which ramps will be closing Friday will depend on how work progresses in the earlier part of the week.

MaineDOT continues to stress the importance of reduced speed and cautious driving. Work zone speed limits of 45 mph are strictly enforced and fines are doubled for violators.

Drivers are advised that work on the I-295 is weather-dependent and will continue into October, with construction crews working nights, Sunday through Friday, until the project is completed.

MaineDOT appreciates the patience of all drivers during this construction period, and also asks motorists to travel safely through all work zones.
