Augusta ? During the week of September 3rd, work crews will be completing the paving project on State Street in Augusta. Weather permitting, the paving from Union Street to the Augusta/Hallowell town line will be completed and then striped with a new traffic pattern.
This new pattern will be changing from the existing four lanes (2 lanes in-bound and 2 lanes out-bound) to a three lane pattern. (One lane in-bound, one lane out-bound as well as a center turning lane) Motorists will be assisted navigating the new pattern by variable message signs, helping to direct the proper traffic flow.
This change, requested by the City of Augusta and approved by MaineDOT, will provide left turning vehicles protection for thru traffic, as well as new formal shoulders.
All work on this project is anticipated to be completed by the end of September.
