Motorists should be aware of lane closure on I-95 northbound in Augusta

Motorists who utilize I-95 northbound in Augusta need to be aware of a lane closure and possible delays at the Exit 112 Bridge on I-95 northbound starting Wednesday, February 16.

Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in order for crews to replace the bridge decking and surface. Northbound traffic will remain reduced to one lane until May 5, at which point two lanes of traffic will be opened with a reduced width in order to replace the shoulder area of the bridge deck.

Crews expect to complete the bridge deck replacement by May 26, 2011, reopening the bridge to a normal width lanes and an uninterrupted traffic pattern prior to Memorial Day Weekend.

Work began on this project in late November as crews worked underneath the bridge to repair the bridge piers along Route 27. Crews will return to under-bridge repairs after Memorial Day Weekend, with the entire project expected to be complete by August 1, 2011.

I-95 northbound traffic looking to access the Midcoast area via Route 3 and Exit 113 should consider utilizing Exit 109 and Western Avenue as an alternate route to access Route 3.

Wyman and Simpson Inc., of Richmond is the contractor for the $1.4 million project.
