Drivers should plan for delays due to one-way alternating traffic.

CHINA/VASSALBORO– April 23, 2026 — Starting on April 27, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will begin work on Route 23 for a highway rehabilitation and drainage improvements project.

Drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic during work hours. Normal traffic patterns will resume when work for the day has been completed. 

Motorists should expect one way traffic to last from sunrise to sunset for the duration of the project.

Signs will be up to inform the public of the project work.

Flaggers will be on site to direct motorists through the project area. 

The project area begins .9 miles north of Memory Lane and extends north 2.85 miles.

Work is expected to be completed by Fall 2026.

The contractor on this project is Pratt and Sons of Mechanic Falls, Maine

The contract amount is $3,575,295.00.
