MaineDOT To Repair Beam On Rail Portion Of Black Bridge

BRUNSWICK, Maine ? Motorists who utilize Route 1 in Brunswick need to be aware of an upcoming bridge repair that will detour Route 1 northbound traffic on Monday, October 24.

Crews will be repairing the rail line portion of the Black Bridge that spans Route 1 in Brunswick. The bridge was damaged when it was struck by an over-height vehicle, and must be repaired.

Starting at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, crews will detour northbound traffic onto a marked detour that includes Pleasant Street and Maine Street. There will also be variable message signs placed on I-295 northbound and Route 1 southbound in Brunswick alerting motorists to utilize the Topsham Coastal Connector in order to bypass the detour.

While the detour is in place, crews will be installing jersey barriers on Monday, and hope to have them installed by the evening commute on Monday. Once the barriers are in place, crews will reopen two 11-foot lanes to traffic, allowing both northbound and southbound Route 1 traffic to travel through the work area. Speed will be reduced to 25 mph around the work zone.

Repairs on the bridge are expected to take two weeks.
