MaineDOT Provides Update on Llewellyn Estes Bridge Incident in Old Town
(AUGUSTA – September 8, 2026) - The Maine Department of Transportation continues to collect and review data related to the August 13 failure of Span 1 of the new northerly Llewellyn Estes Bridge during concrete placement of the bridge deck.
As part of its ongoing effort to keep the public informed, MaineDOT is releasing an updated set of frequently asked questions, as well as video of the incident captured by a camera located at the dam downstream of the bridge.
The cause of the failure remains under investigation. Data collection, forensic analysis, inspection, and plans for removal of the downed span are ongoing.
