MaineDOT to Close Machias Dike Bridge
Drivers should plan to use the detour.
MACHIAS – April 2, 2026 — The Maine Department of Transportation is closing the Machias Dike Bridge from April 1 to April 30 to replace the existing temporary bridge with an upgraded interim structure. The new structure will be open to traffic in early May and the project is expected to be complete by June 2026. The upgraded structure will remain in place until the permanent bridge can be completed. This work is part of the ongoing Machias Dike Bridge project.
Message boards and detour signs are in place to inform drivers about the detour.
There will be marked detour routes on Route 1. Route 1 northbound will divert between Court Road and Hadley Lake Road. Route 1 southbound will divert between Dublin Street and Main Street.
The contractor on this project is Eurovia Atlantic Coast LLC of Bangor, Maine.
The contract amount is $1,627,458.00.
