MaineDOT Announces Full Ticonic Bridge Closure

Drivers and pedestrians should plan for detours.

WATERVILLE – Feb.18, 2026 — Starting on March 9th, 2026, at 12AM, through March 16th, 2026, at 6 AM, MaineDOT will be closing the Ticonic Bridge to all traffic to facilitate construction activities that require full access to the bridge.

During this closure, vehicular and pedestrian traffic will not be permitted on the bridge.

All travelers must follow the posted detour routes: vehicle traffic will be detoured south via the Carter Memorial Bridge, and pedestrian traffic will be detoured north via the Two Cent Bridge.

Message boards will be posted to alert drivers of the closure in advance.

On March 16, eastbound traffic will reopen at 6 AM, while westbound traffic will remain closed. Westbound vehicles should continue to use the Carter Memorial Bridge detour until further notice.

The contractor on this project is Cianbro Corporation. The contract amount is $52,800,000.
