Long-term Lane Closure Set To Begin On Tukey's Bridge On I-295 Southbound

Beginning Sunday night, April 24, at 7 p.m., workers will implement a long-term lane closure on the right side of Tukey?s Bridge on I-295 southbound.

Construction crews will also establish a long-term lane closure for the Washington Avenue southbound on-ramp to I-295. The Washington Avenue on-ramp is comprised of two lanes and crews will close the right lane of the on-ramp until all work has been completed on bridge. This lane closure will extend north on Washington Avenue to Presumpscot Street.

During the day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., three lanes of traffic will remain open over Tukey?s Bridge on I-295 southbound. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Crews will start removing the pavement on the bridge Monday evening, April 25, and will then begin repairing the bridge. Work will continue both day and night.

Officials expect the work on Tukey?s Bridge to be completed by July 21, although the work schedule is weather-dependent and may change.

The Tukey?s Bridge paving and repair effort is part of a substantial I-295 repair and improvement project that will be ongoing through the fall of this year. Roadway and bridge repair work has been structured to minimize the impact on motorists while improving the safety and enjoyment of traveling one of Maine?s most popular highways.

MaineDOT appreciates the patience of all motorists during this construction period, and also asks motorists to drive safely through all work zones.
