Augusta?s Western Avenue Construction Continues

Augusta ? The reconstruction of Western Avenue in Augusta has been challenging at times and we want to express our gratitude to the traveling public for entering the site with patience and attention to the traffic changes that have occurred since the start of construction.

The project is unfortunately behind schedule largely due to a delay in the aerial utility pole relocations. The utility relocations were (are) paramount in our schedule to beginning the actual reconstruction of the roadway. We were very fortunate to work on all the underground utilities as well as our storm drainage while the aerial utilities were working on relocations. Now that the poles are cleared, the Contractor, RJ Grondin, can now begin the task of rebuilding the core of the roadway.

This fall, Grondin will excavate the old roadbed and replace it with new gravel and pavement. This work will continue until late fall, with the goal to have the traveling public on a new layer of pavement and in the new traffic pattern with curbing installed and signals complete prior to winter suspension of the contract.

When we return in the spring of 2015, we will place the final surface course of pavement and complete sidewalks and general clean up, with the goal of completing the entire project by the end of June, 2015. Traffic disruptions in the spring until completion will be minimal as the work will be scheduled around peak travel times.
