Additional I-295 Southbound Ramp Closings To Begin Thursday

As part of the I-295 southbound repair currently underway in Portland, construction crews will begin nighttime closures this Thursday on three I-295 southbound ramps including the off- and on-ramps at Exit 6A (Forest Avenue) and the on-ramp from the Fore River Parkway to I-295 southbound. The construction schedule calls for the ramps to be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday.

These closures will allow construction crews to make repairs and replace pavement on the Forest Avenue and Fore River Bridges and will occur off and on for several weeks.

For the closed Exit 6A off-ramp from I-295 to Forest Avenue inbound, the detour will be to take Exit 6B, turning right onto Forest Avenue outbound, then right onto Baxter Boulevard, left onto Preble, and left onto Forest Avenue inbound. The detour will be appropriately marked with detour signs to guide motorists.

For the closed southbound on-ramp to I-295 from Forest Avenue outbound, the detour will be to turn right onto Baxter Boulevard, left on to Preble, then left onto Forest Avenue inbound and enter I-295 via the on-ramp. The detour will be appropriately marked with detour signs to guide motorists.

For the closed southbound on-ramp from the Fore River Parkway to I-295 southbound, the detour will be to travel south on Fore River Parkway, turn right onto Veterans Memorial Bridge, then follow existing signs to enter I-295. The detour will be appropriately marked with detour signs to guide motorists.

Drivers on I-295 are advised to pay close attention to signage connected with the repair work especially signs indicating reduced speed zones and detours. For more information and to sign up for email alerts, please go to mainedot.gov.

This effort is part of a substantial I-295 repair and improvement project that will be ongoing through the fall of this year. Roadway and bridge repair work has been structured to minimize the impact on motorists while improving the safety and enjoyment of traveling one of Maine?s most popular highways.

MaineDOT appreciates the patience of all motorists during this construction period, and also asks motorists to drive safely through all work zones.
