Winter Moth Defoliation Risk Map

This map predicts risk for defoliation of hardwood trees by winter moth (Operophtera brumata). Estimates of risk are based on:
- Locations with mapped defoliation in previous years
- Pheromone traps set by the Maine Forest Service in December
- Moth flight reports from our on-line survey in December and other customer calls
- Moth samples submitted by the public
- Weather related events that impact moth populations.
