SQL Express Services

The SQL Express database service is intended for small, non-mission critical databases. These databases reside on servers in a controlled physical environment with managed updates, maintenance, storage, file backup and disaster recovery services, but they do not benefit from extended service hours' coverage, technical support or real-time mirroring.

    • Application Administrators are granted Content Manager access and administer their named instance. ACLs can be broken down further to manage permissions by Application Development staff to limit access levels with AD groups. Server support is still managed by CTS.
    • *SQL Server Reporting Services Express cannot connect to remote data sources, only to databases on its local server. As an example, if your database lives on W-SQLEXPRESS-PROD.som.w2k.state.me.us\UNO, your SSRS instance can only connect to databases that live in W-SQLEXPRESS-PROD.som.w2k.state.me.us\UNO.
