Augusta ? Today, the Maine Port Authority and the Maine Department of Transportation announced that it has selected the winning bidder for the construction of a freezer warehouse at the International Marine Terminal (IMT) in Portland.
Americold Logistics LLC will now enter into negotiations with the Maine Port Authority on the terms for the construction and operation of a temperature controlled warehousing facility to be located on land owned by the Department of Transportation adjacent to the IMT.
?We are excited to be entering into negotiations with Americold,? said John Henshaw, executive director of the Maine Port Authority. ?Americold is the global leader in the freezer warehouse industry. Its interest in the IMT for a new location is a testament to the strategic value of the Port of Portland and to Maine?s food and beverage industry that will benefit from this facility.?
Americold operates 175 facilities with over one billion cubic feet of temperature controlled space in six different countries. In the United State alone, it operates 145 facilities in 38 states. Americold enjoys a strategic relationship with Eimskip ? the Icelandic shipping company that has recently moved much of its Eastern US operations to Maine.
?Americold?s commitment to this project validates the investment Governor Paul LePage and the Maine Department of Transportation have made at the IMT,? said MaineDOT Commissioner David Bernhardt. ?These sort of smart investments in logistical capability are how we make Maine more competitive and help businesses create jobs throughout Maine, from Portland to Aroostock and Washington Counties.?
