UPDATE: Rain pushed the second closure from the night of September 1st to the night of September 2nd. Passenger vehicles will be allowed to use a narrow lane to cross the bridge during the closure.
HANCOCK COUNTY - As the Maine Department of Transportation approaches the end of a summer construction project on the Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge, the paving contractor has requested several full closures of the bridge to ensure the safety of workers. MaineDOT is accommodating this request and closing the bridge for two four-hour periods: from 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 26th to 1:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27th and from 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2nd to 1:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3rd. Emergency vehicles will still be allowed to use the bridge during these times. Passenger vehicles will be allowed to use a narrow lane to cross the bridge during the second closure (on the night of September 2nd).
Paving work accomplished during these bridge closures will help move this project closer to full completion and ensure the safety of our crews and contracting partners while this important work is being done.
MaineDOT thanks the members of the traveling public for their continued patience and understanding during the length of this project.
