Trenton ? Crews have wrapped up paving for the season on a $2.3 million project on Routes 3 and 230 in Trenton. The project includes reconstruction of portions of Routes 3 and 230, and redesign of the intersection of these routes including new turning lanes and a traffic signal.
Though much of the work was done during overnight hours, commuters experienced traffic delays. According to MaineDOT Project Manager Shawn Davis, the Department appreciates the patience shown by residents, local businesses and tourists. ?We had nearly 1.2 million cars travel through this work zone since the project started and there are no alternate routes. Though this makes it difficult for everyone involved, we accomplished a great deal.?
Nearly all the drainage work was completed including the installation of 26 catch basins, 4, 350 ft. of underdrain, 116 ft. of concrete box and nearly 1,000 ft. of culverts. More than 7,200 cubic yards of concrete were removed. In addition, 8,500 cubic yards of gravel and 2,100 tons of pavement were placed on Routes 3 and 230.
According to Davis, ?because of the efforts and accomplishments this season, work in the area next spring will be considerably less.? He notes, ?Crews will be back to add turning lanes, install guardrails and sidewalks and finish the paving project. However, we hope to accomplish most of this work at night, greatly minimizing the impacts to the traveling public.?
